Supporting Younger Persons
Supporting Younger Persons Mental Health and Providing Resource Material
Mammoth Sized Foundation understands that every human will experience a hard point in their mental health. How strongly those experiences are will differ from person to person; but that doesn't mean that you are alone.
Its okay not to feel okay.
Its okay to have feelings of doubt or experience anxiety. Its okay to experience feelings of depression.
Mammoth Sized Foundation wants YOU to know there are resources out there for you to be able to express those feelings without judgement in a safe space. There are safe spaces across Canada that are here ready when you need.
Please browse the information below and reach out to someone if you or someone you know is experiencing these feelings
If you need to talk and you:
- are not feeling yourself
- are experiencing a crisis
- have emotional pain
- know someone who needs help
The Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention provides a list of crisis centres across Canada. Crisis centres are there for people who are reaching out for help.
Kids Help Phone, the First Nations and Inuit Hope for Wellness Help Line and the Canada Suicide Prevention Service also offer 24/7 support.
Seeking Help does NOT mean you are suicidal or that you may act on negative thoughts or feelings it simply means having someone to listen to you and for you to be okay with your emotions.
How to help someone in crisis
Talking honestly, responsibly and safely about suicide, depression or anxiety can help you determine if someone needs help. If you want to help someone in crisis, try:
- listening and showing concern
- showing concern can be an immediate way to help someone
- listening won't increase the risk of suicide and it may save a life
- talking with them and reassuring them that they're not alone
- letting them know you care
- connecting them with a:
- crisis line
- counsellor
- trusted person (neighbour, friend, family member or Elder)
